Margin, padding, and canvas size explained
An image margin expands the canvas outside the existing pixels. It differs from resizing because the source remains at its native dimensions. Equal margins center the image; unequal margins create deliberate offset or room for later text.
Use transparent PNG when the destination should provide the background. Use a solid color for JPG because JPEG cannot preserve transparency. Large margins increase output dimensions and file size.
